Heracles' instructions were to explore one of the places he was given and search around for clues. The ballroom had sounded like a nice place to start, so he made his way there and began to wander around, getting distracted by everything around him and forgetting he had a task. Had anyone been there to tell him he was wasting time, he would tell them he was only getting a feel for the place before he started wandering around and looking for clues.
However, there was no one here to stop him right now, so he simply wandered the large room. It was more beautiful than any place he had ever been to, with shiny, polished floors, a large crystal chandelier hanging from the ceiling, and tables with crisp white tablecloths set up about the room. It was like the palaces in the fairy tales he used to read to his little sister at night to get her to fall asleep. That thought made him wish she were here. She would have loved this place. This wasn't the time to be getting sad, though. He had work to do.
He hiked up the staircase to explore the upper level of the room, though he figured it would be nothing but extra bedrooms or something, nothing of particular interest. Regardless, it was best to look everywhere for clues. Besides who knew which one of them might be next here?

The ballroom seemed as good a place as any to begin searching for clues, though Egil had no idea in what form a clue would manifest itself. Everyone was on edge now, whether they were inclined to show it or not, and there was an undercurrent of fear and suspicion whenever anyone was around another. As he walked through the double-doors that led into the ballroom, he saw that there was already someone else here, and his heartbeat spiked despite himself. It was that fight or flight instinct his class had discussed in Health last semester--and yes, Egil most certainly did want to fly away from this place. However, the most pressing matter now was to find the murderer before he or she claimed any more victims.
"Hello," he called, inclining his head to the upper level and hoping he hadn't startled the other man in the room. He figured it would be best to announce his presence than to sneak up on people. As Egil walked across the wooden floor, which was polished and waxed enough to reflect the hundreds of lights housed in the chandeliers suspended above, he couldn't help but imagine the gentry who had most likely put this room to use: noble women in flowing gowns and layers of petticoats stepping in time with men in sleek, tailored suits. It seemed almost a shame that this room wouldn't be used for that purpose again anytime soon.
Realizing that he had wasted enough time daydreaming, Egil remembered the task at hand and began walking around the perimeter of the room, keeping a sharp eye for anything out of the ordinary.

He wasn't startled, but it certainly snapped him out of his thoughts. Heracles turned around to see who had been speaking to him. This was one of the people he was supposed to search with, wasn't it?
He became distracted from his searches for the moment, arms on the railing of the stairs as he leaned forward slightly, just staring as he looked them over like he had a tendency to do. He never meant to seem creepy by it, it was only a habit he had. They were certainly interesting-looking, not like any person he'd seen before. He was never one to judge a person by looks, but if everyone was like this, maybe this would be even more fun than he had originally thought. It didn't look like he would even be making a few quick bucks out of being here, but then again, he could always look for some... other things as well. Of course he didn't expect to find his special someone right off the bat, though there was no sense in not exploring around and meeting new people, right?
Deciding the two of them would cover more ground together anyway, Heracles walked down the stairs to meet up with his partner and introduce himself. He was brought up properly, so he should act like it.
"Hello. Name's Heracles Karpusi. You?"
He held out his hand to shake.
